Danger of data projectors & whiteboards
I've been using data projectors for about ten years now (they were HUGE and VERY expensive back then!) and have always been very careful especially in the classroom, because I was aware how bright the bulb was and that there was a danger to the eyes of anyone who got caught in the beam.
Yet it is only now that the danger is being highlighted publicly. The BBC is reporting on the danger
Interactive whiteboards are not just whiteboards but whiteboards WITH a projector of some kind.
The best whiteboards I've seen are the ones where the projector is BEHIND the screen and there is no danger at all. Unfortunately it is unlikely that classrooms have projection booths where this kind of thing can be set up. Meanwhile, I pass on the warning to any teachers or whiteboard or projector users who haven't yet heard about it.
